The taxonomists from Vietnam National Museum of Nature and Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences are described one new species of the cicada genus Orientopsaltria, tribe Dundubiini, subfamily Cicadinae (Hemiptera: Cicadidae)
The new species is described from Ma Da-Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve, Phu Ly Commune, Vinh Cuu District, Dong Nai Province, in Southern Vietnam. The species name refers to the locality of origin of the type specimen: Orientopsaltria dongnaiensis.
According to the revision of the genus by Duffels & Zaidi (2000), Orientopsaltria Kato, 1944 consisted of twentyfour species in Southeast Asia. Additional species have been described since their revision so that the number of species currently represented in the genus is thirty-two (Sanborn 2013). The genus Orientopsaltria is restricted to the Malayan Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Palawan, and the Philippines. None of the Orientopsaltria species is distributed over the whole range of the genus.
Measurements in mm: n=1 male: body length: 37.2; fore wing length: 46.5; fore wing width: 14.2; head width: 11; pronotum width: 11.9; mesonotum width: 10.3. The descriptions of the species are published in the Journal: Zootaxa 4603 (3): 575–582.
The type specimen is deposited in the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
